Focus – August 2017

Beating the Heat

Summer is racing by and the dog days of August are upon us, as we say in the South.

We’re grateful for the wonderful rains of last week and the amazing relief in our hot weather. Our Homemade Ice Cream Social was also a welcome relief. We want to express our thanks to the Family Life Committee for hosting that delicious welcome back social for our family. Special thanks to co-chairs Dona & Seth Glaze.

Another way of beating the heat: I want to encourage each of you as you attend worship on Sunday to dress comfortably. What’s fascinating is the Bible nowhere gives a description or detail of proper attire to wear for worshipping the Lord. The only requirement the scriptures speak of are the preparation of the human heart. So men and ladies dress accordingly as we get through our hot August and September.

We are praying for our children, youth, college students, teachers, and school staff as August 14 and the first day of school draws near. On Sunday, August 13, we encourage our children to bring a school backpack with them our worship services.  I will offer a blessing of our children as they begin the new school year, and prayers for our teachers and staff as well.  We are told that as a boy, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and people.” (Luke 2: 52)  That is my prayer for the children, youth, and college students of our church family as well.

In Christ’s love,

– Bro. Daniel
