As we enter November, truly a month of giving thanks, I am grateful to God that in the DNA of our nation, our founders, those immortal Pilgrims, set the precedent for us on the 4th Thursday of November for our unique national holiday called Thanksgiving, a religious national holiday in which we pause as a nation to thank God for His gracious provision toward our nation, our homes, and families.
Research has documented and that people who give thanks, who have gratitude toward God and others, live longer, happier, lives with less stress and improved health. So thanksgiving is more than just one day out of the year – but an attitude of the heart for year round. People of faith have long known this. The psalmist invites us: “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.”
Ps. 107:1 What are the things in your life for which you are thankful to God our Heavenly Father?
The Sheridan Community Thanksgiving Service will be Sunday, Nov. 26th at 6:00 pm hosted again at Meadowview Baptist Church in their new Sanctuary on Highway 270 East. The love offering at the Community service underwrites the Sheridan/Grant County Ministerial Alliance Fund which assisted over 200 persons thus far in 2017. One way to express our thanks to God for His abundance for each of us is in giving back to help others.
I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday, November 5, for All Saints’ Sunday.
And I thank God for each of you – and for your love for Jesus and His Church.
